Summary
The Plot is a local-first notebook published by Nerdy Planet. Your notes, story arcs, people, and backup files are stored on your device unless you choose to export or share them.
The free Android release does not require an account, does not use ads, and does not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
Data Stored On Your Device
The app stores notebook posts, story arcs, people references that you add in notes, local preferences, and backup/import metadata needed to keep your notebook working.
The free Android app stores this data locally using app storage and a local SQLite database. The Plot does not upload your notebook to a The Plot server.
The Plot does not separately encrypt the local database in this release. Local app data depends on Android app storage protections and your device security, such as your lock screen and device backups.
Backup And Restore
When you export a backup, The Plot creates a ZIP file and opens the Android share sheet. You choose where that backup goes, such as Files, Drive, Dropbox, email, or another app installed on your device.
Backup ZIP files are readable Markdown and JSON so you can keep ownership of your writing; they are not encrypted by The Plot.
When you import a backup, The Plot reads the ZIP file you select. The app limits backup size and file count to reduce the risk of broken or hostile files.
Network And Tracking
The free Android release does not use ads or third-party tracking SDKs.
The app may include Android's Internet permission as part of the Capacitor app shell, but the free Android release does not use it to upload your notes, run ads, or send analytics.
If you share an exported backup with another app or cloud provider, that provider's privacy practices apply.
Permissions
The app uses file and share system features so you can export and import backups.
The free Android release does not request microphone or speech recognition permissions.
Retention And Deletion
Your notebook data stays on your device until you delete it in the app, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app.
Exported backup files stay wherever you saved or shared them until you delete them from that location. The Plot cannot delete copies you send to another app, email account, cloud provider, or device.
The Plot does not provide user accounts, so there is no account deletion process.
Security
The Plot is designed for private local writing, but it is not a locked medical, legal, or enterprise vault. Device-level security, such as your phone lock screen and backups, still matters.
If your device is shared, unlocked, backed up, rooted, compromised, or configured to expose app data, other people or software may be able to access data stored on the device.
Children
The Plot is not directed to children.
